โ๏ธ Everwind Combat Guide โ Weapons, Parry, Magic & Skill Tree
Combat in Everwind is physics-driven and stamina-gated โ every swing, block and dodge costs stamina, and running out leaves you stunned and vulnerable. The parry mechanic is the most powerful tool available: a perfectly timed shield block staggers any enemy at zero stamina cost. This guide covers every weapon type, explains the stamina and magic systems, lists all known enemies, and recommends the best early Skill Tree path for survival.
๐ฎ Core Combat Mechanics
Every combat action in Everwind consumes stamina. The stamina bar is shared between attacking, blocking and sprinting. When it empties while blocking, you are staggered โ use the Parry to avoid this. Understanding each input and its stamina cost is the foundation of combat mastery.
| Action | Input | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Light Attack | Left Mouse / R2 | Fast, low-damage swing. Costs low stamina. Best for stamina-drain combos against shielded enemies. |
| Heavy Attack | Hold LMB / R2 | Charged power strike. High damage, high stamina cost, slow wind-up. Staggers light enemies on hit. |
| Block | Right Mouse / L2 | Raise shield to reduce damage. Consumes stamina proportional to the blocked damage. Stamina-efficient against slow-attacking enemies. |
| Parry | Block at last moment | Time your Block to the final frame before impact. Staggers enemy for 1.5 seconds. Zero stamina cost. Most powerful defensive move โ essential in dungeons. |
| Dodge Roll | Space + Direction | Invincibility frames during the roll animation. Costs moderate stamina. Reliable escape from heavy attacks and AoE ground slams. |
| Stamina Break | (Enemy mechanic) | When your stamina hits zero while blocking, you are staggered for ~2 seconds โ completely vulnerable. Manage stamina carefully against multi-hit enemies. |
| Backstab | Attack from behind | Attacking an unaware enemy from behind deals bonus damage. Some weapon modifiers boost backstab bonus by up to +19%. Especially effective on Skeletons. |
๐ก๏ธ All Everwind Weapon Types
Everwind has six weapon types across melee, ranged and magic categories. Weapons within the same type can roll random modifier bonuses at craft time. Higher upgrade milestones (+5, +10) add additional modifiers. See the Skill Tree Guide for nodes that enhance specific weapon types.
โ๏ธ Sword (Stone โ Copper โ Iron)
| Damage | Medium |
| Speed | Medium |
| Special | Balanced light/heavy combo. Default starting weapon type. Best all-around choice for new players. |
| Best vs. | Skeletons, Skeleton King, standard dungeon enemies |
๐ก๏ธ Dagger (Copper โ Iron)
| Damage | Low per hit |
| Speed | Very Fast |
| Special | Highest DPS through rapid light attacks. Excels at backstab builds (+19% backstab modifier available). Weak against armored enemies. |
| Best vs. | Unaware enemies, Skitters (stealthy creatures), Toad swarms |
๐ก๏ธ Shield (Wood โ Copper โ Iron)
| Damage | Low (bash) |
| Speed | Slow |
| Special | Enables Parry mechanic. Paired with a Sword in off-hand. The Wooden Shield is sufficient for all Altitude 1 content. |
| Best vs. | Required for parry builds โ pair with any one-handed weapon |
๐น Bow (Wood โ Copper)
| Damage | Medium-High |
| Speed | Slow (draw time) |
| Special | Ranged. Shoots arrows with physical draw. No auto-aim. Headshots deal bonus damage. Arrows are crafted (3 Wood + 1 Feather โ 5 Arrows). |
| Best vs. | Spine Jaws (before they close range), Wraith Lord (ranged phase), aerial enemies at Altitude 2 |
๐ช Staff (Novice) (Novice โ Advanced (Master locked))
| Damage | Medium-High (elemental) |
| Speed | Medium |
| Special | Casts elemental spells consuming the Staff's energy bar. Recharged at Charging Station (30s) or using Spirit Dust in the field. Cannot be repaired โ has durability like weapons. |
| Best vs. | Grouped enemies, Golem Boss (elemental weak spots), Swamp undead |
๐ Spell Book (Single-spell books (no tier progression))
| Damage | Utility / AoE support |
| Speed | Slow activation |
| Special | Two-handed hold. Each book contains exactly one spell (AoE heal, ground slam, enemy slow, etc). Does not degrade. Recharged at Charging Station only โ no Spirit Dust shortcut. |
| Best vs. | Co-op utility, dungeon crowd control, healing support |
๐ฌ Everwind Combat & RPG Systems Overview
This video covers why Everwind's combat and RPG depth sets it apart from standard survival games โ including the stamina system, weapon variety, rune socketing and skill tree in action.
๐ฒ Weapon Modifier System
Every crafted weapon in Everwind can roll one random modifier. Additional modifiers are gained at upgrade milestones. Modifiers are permanent โ you cannot reroll them. When two identical weapon types are available, compare modifiers before deciding which to upgrade to +10.
| Modifier Type | Example Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| +% Backstab Damage | +19% Backstab | Excellent on Daggers for assassin playstyle |
| +% Critical Hit Chance | +5% Crit | Stacks with Combat Skill Tree crit node |
| +% Stamina Damage | +12% Stam Dmg | Drains enemy stamina faster โ pairs well with Shield builds |
| +% Elemental Damage | +8% Fire Dmg | Available on Staves and some Iron-tier melee |
| Lifesteal | +3% Lifesteal | Rare modifier. Restores HP on hit. |
All weapons and armor can be upgraded up to +10 at the Smithing Station using base materials (same material type as the item's tier). Upgrades increase damage/defense linearly. At milestone upgrade levels (+5 and +10), the item gains a random new modifier from the modifier pool. Plan your upgrade path โ upgrading to +10 a weapon you intend to replace is wasteful. Stick with +5 on transitional gear and save +10 for your final-tier weapon of choice.
๐ฎ Everwind Rune System โ All Known Runes
Runes are socketed into weapons and armor at the Smithing Station (requires the Rune Socketing Table Blueprint from the Grimver pyramid). Each item has 1โ3 rune slots depending on tier. Runes cannot be removed once socketed โ choose carefully.
| Rune | Effect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Rune of Strength | +8% Physical Damage | Altitude 1 dungeon chests |
| Rune of Endurance | +12% Max Stamina | Grimver pyramid basement |
| Rune of Warding | -10% incoming damage | Altitude 2 dungeon chests |
| Rune of Swiftness | +15% Attack Speed | Skeleton King drop (guaranteed) |
| Rune of Elements | +10% Elemental Damage | Wraith Lord drop |
| Rune of Recovery | +5 HP regeneration / 30s | Altitude 2 boss chests (rare) |
| Rune of the Arcanist | +20% Staff Charge Capacity | Altitude 2 ruins โ Steamer complex |
๐พ All Everwind Enemies & Bosses

โ Everwind Combat FAQ
โ How does parry work in Everwind?
Equip a Shield in your off-hand and hold Block. A parry triggers when you raise the block in the final frames before an enemy attack lands. A successful parry staggers the enemy for 1.5 seconds and costs zero stamina. Take the 'Parry Window +' Skill Tree node early to widen the timing window.
โ How do I recharge my Staff in Everwind?
Staves recharge at a Charging Station (30 seconds). In the field without a Charging Station, consume Spirit Dust (crafted at Alchemy Station from Crystal Shards + Rare Metal Scraps) to restore charge instantly.
โ What is the best weapon for beginners in Everwind?
The Copper Sword paired with a Wooden Shield is the best all-around beginner loadout. The Shield enables the parry mechanic which trivializes most Altitude 1 enemies once mastered.
โ What do Runes do in Everwind?
Runes are socketed into weapons and armor at the Smithing Station (requires Rune Socketing Table blueprint) to add permanent stat bonuses. Each item has 1โ3 rune slots depending on tier. Runes cannot be removed once socketed.
โ How do I beat the Skeleton King in Everwind?
The Skeleton King has a predictable two-hit combo followed by a pause โ parry the second hit to stagger him, then land 2โ3 heavy attacks. In Phase 2 he summons 3 Skeleton adds โ kill the adds first as they interrupt your combo. He guarantees a Rune of Swiftness drop.
โ Does difficulty scale in Everwind co-op?
Yes. Enemy HP and damage scale with the number of players in the session. Dungeons and Boss encounters become noticeably harder with 3โ4 players but also drop more loot.
