๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ Everwind Beginner's Guide โ€” Survive Your First 24 Hours

Welcome to Everwind. You've just spawned on a floating island with nothing but the clothes on your back. This beginner's guide walks you through every critical step of your first session โ€” from punching your first tree to flying your first skyship. Everwind rewards players who understand its systems early, so use this guide to skip the frustrating trial-and-error and start progressing from minute one.

๐ŸŽฌ Everwind โ€” Ultimate Beginner's Guide (Video)

This community-created beginner's guide covers the exact same steps below in video form. Watch it alongside this written guide for the fastest possible start in Everwind.

๐Ÿ“Š Everwind Survival Stats โ€” What You Need to Manage

Everwind tracks five survival statistics. Understanding how each one works prevents the most common early deaths โ€” especially Hypothermia and the Tainted Water stamina penalty.

StatMechanic
โค๏ธ Health Restored by Cooked Food and Healing Potions. Does NOT regenerate passively.
โšก Stamina Used for sprinting, blocking, and heavy attacks. Drains on dodge roll. Fully recovers when standing still.
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Warmth Drops at night and in high-altitude cold zones. Campfire, clothing, and Fur Cloak counter it.
๐Ÿ’ง Hydration Depletes over time. Only Clean Water or soups hydrate. Tainted Water reduces Max Stamina by 50%.
๐Ÿ– Hunger Depletes slowly. Raw food gives minor restoration. Cooked food gives buffs (e.g. +15% Max Health for 5 min).

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Everwind Day 1 โ€” Step-by-Step Survival Guide

Follow these 8 steps in order. Each step builds on the last โ€” skipping ahead, especially skipping the water purification step, leads to unnecessary deaths. The full loop from spawn to first airship flight takes approximately 3โ€“5 hours for first-time players.

Step 1 โ€” Gather Wood & Stone Immediately

Your first priority in Everwind is gathering raw resources. Punch trees to collect Wood Logs, then break surface rocks for Stone. You need at least 20 Wood Logs and 10 Stone to craft your first essential tools. Do not waste time exploring โ€” stay close to your spawn area until you have a Crafting Station placed. Open your inventory (Tab) to see your auto-discovered recipes as new materials land in your pack.

๐Ÿ’ก Gather an extra 5 Wood Logs as campfire fuel. Wind storms at night can extinguish your fire, causing Hypothermia if you run out of fuel.

Step 2 โ€” Craft Your First Tools โ€” Stone Axe & Pickaxe

With 20 Wood and 10 Stone, open your Crafting menu (C) and craft a Stone Axe and a Stone Pickaxe. The Stone Axe dramatically speeds up tree chopping โ€” without it you spend 3ร— longer on each log. The Pickaxe lets you mine Stone Ore veins and, later, Copper Ore. Equip both to your hotbar immediately. Durability decreases with use; keep spare materials to repair at a Repair Station later.

๐Ÿ’ก Craft a Wooden Shield early. Even at Altitude 1, Skeletons patrol island edges at night. A shield block costs stamina, but a parry (timed block) staggers enemies without any stamina cost.

Step 3 โ€” Solve the Water Problem โ€” Tainted Water is Deadly

Water sources in Everwind are Tainted by default. Drinking Tainted Water reduces your maximum stamina by 50% for several minutes โ€” a death sentence in any combat situation. Craft a Campfire first (8 Wood + 4 Stone), then craft a Clay Pot (6 Clay from riverbank mud). Combine Clay Pot + Tainted Water over the Campfire to produce Clean Water. Your next priority is building a Water Purifier workbench (12 Stone + 6 Copper Ingots) which auto-purifies water much faster.

๐Ÿ’ก Clay is found along riverbanks and near water edges. Always gather at least 10 Clay on your first run.

Step 4 โ€” Build a Campfire & Survive the First Night

Place your Campfire before dusk. Night in Everwind brings Hypothermia risk and more aggressive enemy patrols. Stay within campfire warmth radius (approximately 6 blocks). Use the night to craft: sort your inventory, plan your Carpenter Station placement, and queue up your next morning's resource run. Skeletons are the primary night enemy at Altitude 1 โ€” they patrol in groups of 2โ€“3 and can two-shot you without armor.

๐Ÿ’ก Build at least Wooden Armor (Helmet + Chest + Legs = 18 Wood Planks total) before your first night patrol.

Step 5 โ€” Set Up Your Core Workbenches

Progress in Everwind is gated by workbenches. Place these in order of priority: (1) Crafting Station โ€” unlocks most early recipes; (2) Carpenter Station โ€” Wood Planks, building blocks, airship parts; (3) Smithing Station โ€” smelts Copper Ore into Copper Ingots (requires Furnace); (4) Cooking Station โ€” food buffs that restore health and grant temporary stat bonuses. Group all workbenches inside a walled shelter on your starting island. Leave room for future additions like the Alchemy Station and Block Station.

๐Ÿ’ก The Repair Station (6 Stone + 4 Wood) should be placed adjacent to your Smithing Station. Weapon durability drops fast in dungeons.

Step 6 โ€” Find Copper Ore & Smelt Your First Ingots

Copper Ore veins appear as orange-tinted rock outcrops, usually on cliff faces and in cave pockets at Altitude 1. Mine at least 20 Copper Ore. Build a Furnace (10 Stone + 4 Clay) and smelt Copper Ore into Copper Ingots (2 Ore = 1 Ingot, smelting takes ~10s each). Copper Ingots unlock Copper Tools (faster, more durable than Stone), Copper Armor (your first real armor tier), and critical Airship components including the Energy Generator.

๐Ÿ’ก The Furnace also accepts Wood Logs or Coal as fuel. Coal is found deep in cave systems and burns 3ร— longer than Wood.

Step 7 โ€” Build Your First Airship Core

The Airship is the heart of Everwind progression. You cannot reach new altitude zones without one. The minimum viable airship requires: Cockpit (10 Wood Planks + 4 Copper Ingots), Engine (8 Copper Ingots + 6 Iron Ingots), Balloon ร—2 (12 Cloth each โ€” craft Cloth from Fiber at Carpenter Station), Energy Generator (6 Ancient Metal Scraps + 4 Copper Ingots). Ancient Metal Scraps are found in ruined structures scattered across Altitude 1 islands. Explore every ruin and loot every chest before leaving an island.

๐Ÿ’ก Place the Cockpit first, then attach the Engine directly behind it. Balloons must be placed symmetrically or your ship will tilt.

Step 8 โ€” Clear Your First Dungeon

Dungeon entrances appear as stone archways with glowing runes at the entrance. Altitude 1 dungeons contain Skeleton patrols, a mini-boss (Skeleton King or Executioner), and 2โ€“3 loot chests. You will find Blueprints here โ€” these are critical for unlocking advanced crafting recipes not available through normal material discovery. Always bring Clean Water, cooked food for health regen, and a Wooden Shield. Use parry mechanics: wait for the enemy attack animation, then block at the last moment to stagger and open a counter-attack window.

๐Ÿ’ก Dungeon chests sometimes contain Rune Fragments โ€” hold onto these. Runes are socketed into weapons and armor at the Smithing Station to add stat bonuses.

โš ๏ธ Most Common Everwind Beginner Mistakes

These mistakes come directly from Reddit's r/Everwind_Official and the Steam community forums. Each one has cost players hours of progress โ€” avoid them from the start.

โŒ Mistakeโœ… Fix
Drinking Tainted Water Always boil water in a Clay Pot over Campfire first. Build a Water Purifier ASAP.
Ignoring Hypothermia Keep a Campfire fueled at night. Craft a Fur Cloak (4 Animal Pelt + 2 Fiber) for passive warmth.
Rushing to Altitude 2 too early Ensure you have Copper Armor + Copper Sword before leaving Altitude 1. Altitude 2 enemies two-shot Stone-tier gear.
Not saving Blueprints Blueprints are single-use. Read them immediately or store in a chest โ€” they auto-unlock the recipe on use.
Building an unbalanced Airship Place Balloons symmetrically. Asymmetric ships drift. Use the Cockpit preview grid to check balance before flying.
Wasting Ancient Metal Scraps Ancient Metal Scraps are only found in ruins. Use them only for the Energy Generator โ€” not for lower-priority recipes.
Skipping the Skill Tree You earn Skill Points from leveling (kill enemies and complete dungeons). Spend them early โ€” Combat Branch first for survival.

๐Ÿ“œ Early Blueprint Locations (Altitude 1)

Blueprints unlock advanced recipes not discoverable through normal material pickup. These are the highest-priority blueprints to find during your first few hours. For full crafting recipes see the Crafting Guide.

BlueprintLocation
Copper Armor Set Altitude 1 dungeon chest (guaranteed in first dungeon)
Water Purifier Ruined cabin structures on riverbank islands
Forge (Iron Smelter) Steamer-style ruin, square stone buildings with pipes
Airship Hull Blocks Wrecked airship debris floating near Altitude 1/2 border
Rune Socketing Table Grimver stone pyramid โ€” basement level

โ“ Everwind Beginner FAQ

โ“ How do I get Clean Water in Everwind?

Craft a Clay Pot (6 Clay) and combine it with Tainted Water over a Campfire to produce Clean Water. Later, build a Water Purifier (12 Stone + 6 Copper Ingots) for automatic purification.

โ“ Where do I find Ancient Metal Scraps?

Ancient Metal Scraps are found inside ruined structures on Altitude 1 islands โ€” especially in collapsed towers, buried chests, and dungeon rooms. Explore every ruin before moving on.

โ“ How do I stop dying to Hypothermia at night?

Keep a Campfire fueled (5 Wood Logs minimum). Craft a Fur Cloak for passive warmth. Avoid being in the open during Blizzard weather events, which also occur at Altitude 1.

โ“ When should I move to Altitude 2?

Upgrade to at least full Copper Armor and a Copper Sword before attempting Altitude 2. Also ensure your Airship Core is at upgrade level 1 โ€” otherwise your ship cannot fly high enough.

โ“ What is the parry mechanic in Everwind?

Raise your shield and time the block to the last moment before an enemy's attack lands. A successful parry staggers the enemy for 1.5 seconds with zero stamina cost to you โ€” the most powerful defensive technique in the game.

โ“ Do I lose my gear when I die in Everwind?

No โ€” equipped armor and weapons are kept on death. However, your backpack inventory (resources, food, potions, loot) is dropped at your death location and must be recovered within 10 minutes before it despawns.
