๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Everwind Altitude Zones Guide โ€” All Biomes, Enemies & Resources

Everwind's world is organized vertically. Every floating island exists at a specific altitude level, and that altitude determines what biome you find, which enemies patrol it, what materials you can harvest, and what environmental hazards threaten your survival. This guide covers every altitude zone from the safe starting meadows of Altitude 1 to the deadly high-altitude deserts of Altitude 3 โ€” with gear recommendations, enemy lists and resource priorities for each.

๐Ÿ“Š Altitude Zone Overview

Three altitude tiers define Everwind's vertical world. Each requires a higher Airship Core level to access. Use the table to plan your progression and gear up before each transition. Attempting a higher altitude zone underprepared is the most common cause of lost progress.

๐ŸŽฌ Everwind Altitude Zones & Biomes (Official Devlog #5)

The official Devlog #5 includes direct footage of all altitude zones โ€” jungle ruins, toxic rotten islands, swamp cemeteries and the desert endgame. Best visual reference for understanding what each zone looks like before you fly in.

๐ŸŒ Biome-by-Biome Breakdown

Each biome in Everwind has unique terrain, civilization lore, enemy composition and resource priorities. Read the biome you are about to enter before flying in โ€” especially Rotten Island where unprepared players take continuous toxic damage.

๐ŸŒฟ

Starting Meadows

Altitude 1 ยท Civilization: None

The first islands every player encounters. Flat, open terrain with scattered trees, surface stone outcrops, and riverbank clay deposits. Enemy density is low during the day but increases significantly at night when Skeleton patrols activate. The Starting Meadows are the only zone where players can gather all Tier 1 materials in one area. Use this biome to fully stock Wood, Stone, Fiber, and Clay before constructing your Airship.

๐Ÿ‘พ Enemies Skeleton (patrol), Wild Boar (passive), Toad
๐Ÿ“ฆ Resources Wood Log, Stone, Fiber, Clay, Animal Pelt, Bone
๐Ÿ“ Points of Interest Ruined Cabins (Blueprints), Surface Copper Veins (rare), Campfire spawn points
๐Ÿ’ก Tip Gather 20+ Clay here before leaving. Clay is far less common in later biomes.
๐ŸŒด

Jungle / Grimver Ruins

Altitude 1โ€“2 ยท Civilization: Grimver (ancient stone-builders)

Dense jungle canopy with towering trees that block light at ground level. The Grimver civilization left behind massive stone pyramids, giant swords driven into the earth, and bamboo village ruins. Deep canyons split the landscape โ€” falling is a real hazard. The Jungle is the best biome for early Iron Ore veins at its upper edges (Altitude 2 boundary), and the Grimver pyramid basement contains the Rune Socketing Table blueprint. Spine Jaw creatures nest in the undergrowth and attack in groups of 3โ€“5.

๐Ÿ‘พ Enemies Spine Jaw (groups), Skeleton, Skeleton Executioner
๐Ÿ“ฆ Resources Iron Ore (upper edges), Spine Jaw Fluid, Exotic Wood, Stone
๐Ÿ“ Points of Interest Grimver Stone Pyramid (Rune Socketing Blueprint), Giant Sword landmark, Bamboo Village ruins
๐Ÿ’ก Tip Bring a Shield โ€” Spine Jaws lunge fast. Block the first lunge then counter-attack.
๐Ÿ‚

Russet Forest

Altitude 2 ยท Civilization: None (remnants of Grimver outposts)

Altitude 2's autumn-colored forest zone. Massive red and orange canopy trees create a striking visual contrast with the darker biomes nearby. Enemy density is moderate with patrolling Skeleton groups and Elite Wolves. Copper veins are abundant here making it an excellent farming location for Copper Ore to stockpile before transitioning to Iron. The Russet Forest also contains the most Surface Dungeon entrances per island of any Altitude 2 biome โ€” prioritize dungeon clearing here for Blueprint drops.

๐Ÿ‘พ Enemies Skeleton (groups), Elite Wolf, Skeleton Executioner
๐Ÿ“ฆ Resources Copper Ore (abundant), Iron Ore (veins), Animal Pelt (wolves), Exotic Timber
๐Ÿ“ Points of Interest Multiple Surface Dungeon entrances, Grimver outpost ruins, Underground cave networks
๐Ÿ’ก Tip The highest Blueprint drop rate per dungeon is in Russet Forest. Clear every dungeon here before moving to Rotten Island.
โ˜ ๏ธ

Rotten Island

Altitude 2 ยท Civilization: Steamer (industrial)

The most dangerous Altitude 2 biome. The Steamer civilization's industrial legacy turned this island into a toxic wasteland โ€” abandoned mines pump poison gas, crumbling refineries leak environmental hazards, and massive open-pit excavation sites scar the terrain. Players without Poison Resistance (crafted at Alchemy Station) will take continuous damage in the toxic zones. Despite the danger, Rotten Island contains the highest concentration of Iron Ore, Coal, and Rare Metal Scraps in Altitude 2 โ€” making it essential for Airship Core Level 2 and Level 3 upgrades.

๐Ÿ‘พ Enemies Skeleton (dense patrols), Skeleton Executioner, Wraith Lord (dungeon boss)
๐Ÿ“ฆ Resources Iron Ore (highest density), Coal, Rare Metal Scraps, Steamer Machine Parts (alchemy ingredient)
๐Ÿ“ Points of Interest Steamer Mines (underground), Abandoned Refineries (loot), Giant Open-Pit Excavation, Wraith Lord Dungeon
๐Ÿ’ก Tip Craft Poison Resistance Flask (4 Spine Jaw Fluid + 2 Crystal Shards at Alchemy Station) before exploring Rotten Island. Toxic zones deal ~5 HP/second.
๐Ÿ’€

Swamp / Cemetery

Altitude 2 ยท Civilization: Unknown ancient civilization (pre-Grimver)

Half-submerged floating islands covered in murky water, dead trees and ancient tombstones. The Swamp/Cemetery biome has the highest Skeleton density of any zone โ€” hordes of 5โ€“8 Skeletons patrol the cemetery grounds, and ancient underground tombs contain elite Skeleton variants with above-average gear drops. The Skeleton King mini-boss spawns here more frequently than in any other Altitude 2 dungeon. Water patches slow movement speed by 30%, making kiting more difficult. Use the elevated tombstone terrain to funnel enemies into single-file chokepoints for easier parry management.

๐Ÿ‘พ Enemies Skeleton (hordes 5โ€“8), Skeleton King (dungeon), Skeleton Executioner, Skitter (barrel camouflage)
๐Ÿ“ฆ Resources Bone (high yield), Rare Metal Scraps, Iron Ore, Dungeon Loot (highest rune drop rate)
๐Ÿ“ Points of Interest Ancient Underground Tombs, Cemetery Dungeon (Skeleton King), Half-submerged ruins
๐Ÿ’ก Tip Highest rune drop rate in Altitude 2 is in the Swamp dungeon chests. Prioritize this biome for rune farming.
๐Ÿœ๏ธ

Desert / Savannah

Altitude 3 ยท Civilization: Undead civilization (self-sustained)

The highest altitude zone in current Early Access content. Scorching temperatures during the day flip to extreme cold at night โ€” players must manage both Heatstroke (daytime) and Hypothermia (nighttime) simultaneously. Oasis floating islands provide the only safe temperature zones. Underground cities carved into the undersides of floating islands house the undead civilization โ€” massive dungeon complexes with multiple boss rooms and the highest-tier loot in the game. The Massive Golem Boss spawns in specific desert dungeon chambers. Wind currents at this altitude can push uncontrolled airships significantly off course โ€” always anchor your ship before exploring on foot.

๐Ÿ‘พ Enemies Undead Warriors (armored), Massive Golem Boss, Wraith variants, Sand Crawler (burrowing)
๐Ÿ“ฆ Resources Rare Crystal, Ancient Rune Fragments, High-tier Blueprint Scrolls, Gold Ore (Altitude 3 exclusive)
๐Ÿ“ Points of Interest Underground Cities (multi-room dungeons), Oasis Islands (safe zones), Golem Boss Chamber, Ancient Desert Ruins
๐Ÿ’ก Tip Install a Heating Unit AND a Cooling Fan on your Airship before Altitude 3. Both are crafted at the Block Station with Rare Metal Scraps.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Gear Requirements by Zone

Use this table as a pre-flight checklist. The "Recommended" column is what you should have before spending significant time in that zone โ€” the "Minimum" column is what you need to survive long enough to gather resources and leave. For full gear crafting recipes see the Crafting Guide.

โ“ Everwind Altitude Zones FAQ

โ“ How do I reach Altitude 2 in Everwind?

Upgrade your Airship Core to Level 2 using 8 Iron Ingots + 6 Ancient Metal Scraps + 4 Copper Ingots. Iron Ingots require the Forge Blueprint (found in Steamer ruins at Altitude 1) and Iron Ore which is only found at Altitude 2 โ€” collect it on your first exploratory run with a basic Altitude 2-capable ship.

โ“ What is the most dangerous biome in Everwind?

The Rotten Island (Altitude 2) is the most immediately dangerous due to continuous toxic gas damage without Poison Resistance. The Desert (Altitude 3) is the hardest overall due to dual temperature hazards and the Massive Golem Boss.

โ“ Where is Iron Ore in Everwind?

Iron Ore only exists at Altitude 2 and above. It appears as dark grey veins on cliff faces and in cave systems across all Altitude 2 biomes, with the highest density on Rotten Island.

โ“ What is the Grimver civilization in Everwind?

The Grimver are an ancient stone-building civilization whose ruins populate the Jungle biome. They left behind stone pyramids, giant swords and bamboo village remnants. The Grimver pyramid basement contains the Rune Socketing Table Blueprint.

โ“ What is the Steamer civilization in Everwind?

The Steamers were an industrial civilization whose abandoned infrastructure defines the Rotten Island biome โ€” mines, refineries and excavation pits that now pump toxic gas. Rare Metal Scraps and Steamer Machine Parts are found in their ruins.

โ“ Do I need special gear for Altitude 3 in Everwind?

Yes. Altitude 3 requires a Heating Unit and Cooling Fan installed on your Airship (for temperature management), plus Iron +5 or better armor with at least one Rune socketed. Without temperature management the Hypothermia/Heatstroke cycle kills you within 90 seconds of landing.
